Sub-interfaces not working with CSR1000v's

Hello.
I cannot for the life of me figure out this out. I'm starting to think it's a limitation of the software at this point.
I have a basic setup of two routers connected to a switch. If I create sub interfaces, I cannot ping across. I see people were having this same issue on virtual box, but my setup is eve-ng on a vmware esxi 6.5 host. Is this a known issue?
