Apologies for the long delay, been swamped at work.

Correct, web gui authentication. The box itself would be easy enough to tie into LDAP as it's basic Unix.

I am pretty sure that I could hack through the PHP files to include LDAP for myself, but I figured this would be a decent feature others could use as well.

Yes it is possible, since its specific requirement and have develop skill you can do that hack and contribute to project.
